Registration Deadline: Sept. 20th Attention horse owners, trail riders, trainers, lesson clients, barn managers – anyone who interacts with horses! Presenting an all day, one day – HANDS ON – First aid clinic. This could be the most informative learning experience on how to administer first aid to a horse in need. Topics will cover a wide range of issues, beginning with the basics of learning how to read your horse’s vital signs, when to call the vet, bandaging, first aid kit items… to many trail riding related problems such as snake bites/bee stings, branch puncture wounds, twisted shoe, and tying up. This is a hands on clinic with each participant performing the tasks on a safe demo horse or their own horse if they choose to bring one.
The Course Instructor is Coleen Davis, a life-long horse woman who has extensive experience in equine first aid. Coleen has attended UC Davis’ equine first aid courses, is a licensed horse transporter, and she has taught this class to staff for search and rescue operations, boarding facilities and clubs throughout Northern California and Oregon. Her background also includes NATRC, endurance and camping rides, competitions and trips – she has volunteered her time on many vet teams for equine health checks on endurance rides. Coleen is also a certified large animal transporter for San Benito County Evacuation unit and she has many years of experience in emergency situations involving horses. Her goal with the course is for participants to come away with practical knowledge and a direct, hands on understanding of techniques and treatments to assist with equestrian related first aid situations. Please Note: Coleen Davis is not a vet, nor does this clinic intend to administer any medical advice.
For more information and to register, please check out the following fliers with detailed topic listings, forms for registering and the particulars of the clinic. A minimum of 10 participants is needed, and once that minimum has been met, proceeds will be donated to the Heaven’s Ranch Rescue to benefit horses in need. Attending and participating in this seminar will be the best $100 you have spent! It could save hundreds in vet bills, and prepare you for what to do in case of a first aid emergency.
